lynas issue- how big it is?

wokeh, today's entry is about this hot topic nowadays.. lynas.. so whats the big issue? this issue becomes big since YB fuziah, kuantan mp, took it to the street, objecting the LYNAS project..

here---->
http://fuziahsalleh.my/?p=1099

and dia ada la ckp pasal siapa yg dia rujuk, but, wth dari nuclear scientist tu? taraf ENCIK je? xde phd whatsoever? abes tu, prof che rosli tu xleh pakai la statement dia? adussss..

so, aku xnak ckp panjang la, tp aku nak post apa yg aku da sembang dgn Prof Madya Dr. Noramly Muslim (or bdak koleq panggil dia pakngah), the first nuclear engineer in malaysia..

salam pakngah,

saya nak tanya, apa sebenarnya isu di bukit merah?
is it about nuclear or something else?

thanx

Hi,
Thanks for the e-mail and the enquiry.

Bukit Merah is the storage place for the by-products resulting in the processing of amang (tin-tailings) from our tin mining industry in order to obtain precious rare earth metals which are in big demands for the electronic industries and other sophisticated equipments, machinery and control systems, TVs, cars and medical equipments.

When one processes amangs (the byproducts of casserterites from tin tailings.... and there are plenty of the around in mining areas like Ipoh, Batu Gajah, Kampar etc) for the rare earth metals)... the waste (unused portions) from the amang processing contains uranium and thorium metals which is radioactive....as present in the original amang itself. Since uranium and Thorium are possible fuels for nuclear power plants, they are being stored for possible use as reactor fuels in the near future. The place where we store them at a secured place in Bukit Merah....for possible use as fuel for our nuclear plants in the future. Therefore we are saving resources for future uses....rather than throwing them away or selling them.

India uses Thorium for its nuclear power plants. China and Brazil are keeping the rare earth minerals from being exported as they consider them as strategic minerals. Amang business is a big business in Malaysia. We can see them being stored in compounds by the roadsides or in sheds. Yet we are not concerned about the natural radiation from these amang mounds.

What people do not know is that the miners and amang dealers have been handling natural radioactive materials without any qualm. But when it is processed they raised hell. If you go and visit these amang dealers, they live on them....with sleeping beds above these amang mounds in their sores or shop houses. But the real irony is that our politicians or environmentalists do not raise any eye-brows or shouts about the living conditions and how these amangs are being handled or managed!

At the moment AELB are monitoring these amangs to ensure that the workers do not get exposed to too much radiations from the natural radioactive thorium/uranium and that they do not get discharged into the environm, ent.

PakNgah.

thanx pakngah..
so, there is no big issues here..
no leaking and whatsoever la kan?
cause some of the bloggers raise the issue about bukit merah..
they said that it is somehow leak and the gomen just shut the mouth all the people involves,, is that true? org sekeliling saya ni sebok nak kata bukit merah x selamat la, apa la.. but the fact is, they got the fact from the wrong people.. they didnt come to see people in the field.. and when the right people speaks up, they will said, typical nuclear scientist and blablabla..

thanx again :)

Hi,
We have the most advance technology there is for the storage of Thorium and Uranium "wastes" or by-products after the processing of amang (rare earth minerals...tin tailing industry). These are in actual facts are our assets...Uranium and Thorium...the fuels of the future for Malaysia. Perhaps you should go to AELB anf find out more. You can see the designs and how these materials are being stored and monitored. They are the best....even some developed countries do not have such facilities.
Many of us are scared of the unknown....due to lack of knowledge, gullibility and easily manipulated by people with political agendas. Na6tural radiations are right in ou backyards. I will not live next to a coal fired plant compared to a nuclear plant. The amount of pollution and radioactivity emissions from the stacks of coal fired plants are more than that we are worried about from Bukit Merah or Lynas. Its a tragedy...... that many of us are not thinking rationally, we are more subjected to emotions and herd mentality. Of course we are deeply driven by political agendas at the expense of national and economic development. We are moving away from advance technologies and perhaps living in hopes and leaving our future to faith.
Selamat Hari Raya.
PakNgah

ha, maybe korg pelik tgk kejap tulisan kecik, kejap besar, tu pasal aku copy and paste dari email.. kasi original skit.. haha.. padahal mls nak tulis.. hahaha

and kalau korg baca, eh, ni bukit merah, bukan lynas!! yes, lynas and bukit merah is the same project.. rare earth metal.. tempat je lain.. satu kat kuantan, satu kat bukit merah..

so, x tepat la apa yg yb fuziah tu ckp, yg rare earth metal ni baru kat malaysia, sdgkan, da lamaaaaaa dah.. so, u better read it back and find new source la YB.. hahahahaha
